I believe un-self-consciousness is characteristic of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. People who claim to be Spirit-filled will come under intense scrutiny. An apostle or disciple can claim, “I am filled with the Holy Ghost.” Others may say that they were baptized by the Holy Spirit.
The apostles and disciples disagree. One Christian wisely said, “Self is a spiritual BO.” A little boy was playing with a valuable vase one day. He couldn’t get it out. The father tried to take the vase out of his son’s hands but failed. According to the father, the son was planning on breaking the vase.
The father said, ” Try opening your hands and hold your fingers out straight like this and then pull.” To his surprise the little boy said, “Oh no, Papa. I couldn’t open my hands like that because if I did I would drop my penny.”
You can smile if you want, but many of us are like that little boy. We are too focused on the useless penny that this world has to offer us to find freedom. This trifle must go. Surrender!
Let God work in your life. You will see God accept the things that you offer once you have surrendered your life to Christ. Jesus said, “I will not expedite him who cometh unto my feet” (John 6:37).
You have accepted Him. And He will never leave! Don’t let the trinkets of this world get in your way. We encourage you to find peace and contentment with God in all circumstances of your life.
