How does faith become sight?

One of the profound truths in Scripture is that our faith has the power to shape our reality. How does faith become sight? The concept of “faith becoming sight” is about trusting God and His promises, even when we cannot see the outcome, and then experiencing the manifestation of those promises in our lives. It is a journey from belief to knowing, from expectation to fulfillment.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1 (ESV)

This verse sets the foundation for understanding faith and how it operates in our lives. Faith is not mere wishful thinking but a confident assurance and deep-seated conviction that what God has promised, He will bring to pass. So, how does this faith become sight? Let’s explore this transformative journey.

Believing in the Unseen

Faith is required when we cannot see or understand the full picture. It is the substance that gives us hope and the evidence of things we cannot perceive with our physical senses. When we have faith, we trust in God’s character and His Word, even when circumstances suggest otherwise. Imagine a seed buried in the ground. When you plant that seed, you have faith that it will sprout and grow into a beautiful plant, even though you cannot see any evidence of it yet. This is the nature of faith – believing and expecting that what is promised will come to fruition.

“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.'” – Romans 1:17 (ESV)

Here, the apostle Paul emphasizes that the righteous, those who are made right with God through faith in Jesus, will live their lives by this same faith. It is a daily walk, trusting and relying on God’s faithfulness.

Walking by Faith, Not by Sight

Our natural inclination is to rely on our physical senses and what we can perceive in the moment. However, faith calls us to look beyond the immediate and trust in God’s eternal perspective.

“We walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

This verse encourages us to live our lives based on our faith in God and His Word rather than being guided solely by what we can see or understand in the present. It means making decisions and taking actions that align with our faith, even when they seem illogical to the world. For example, when facing a challenging situation, faith might prompt you to respond with forgiveness or patience, even when your natural reaction would be anger or frustration. Walking by faith involves choosing to trust God’s way instead of our own.

Faith Activates God’s Power

When we exercise our faith, we unlock the power of God in our lives. It is through faith that we access His promises and blessings.

“Without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)

This verse highlights the essential role of faith in our relationship with God. He is pleased when we trust Him and step out in faith, believing that He is who He says He is, and that He will reward those who diligently seek Him. Faith is the catalyst that brings God’s power into our situations. When we trust Him and act on His Word, we create space for Him to move on our behalf. Whether it is a need for healing, provision, or wisdom, our faith activates His power to work miracles in our lives.

From Faith to Sight

So, how does faith become sight? It happens when we faithfully walk with God, trusting in His promises, and then witnessing their fulfillment. It is the joy of seeing our hopes and dreams come to life.

“For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.” – Galatians 5:5 (NKJV)

Here, the Apostle Paul reminds us that our hope is rooted in our faith, and we patiently wait for its manifestation through the power of the Holy Spirit. When we pray in faith for a sick loved one and then see them healed, or when we trust God for provision and suddenly receive an unexpected financial blessing, faith becomes sight. It is the moment when our hearts rejoice, knowing that our faith has been rewarded.

Persevering in Faith

It is important to note that the journey of faith is not always easy. There will be times when our faith is tested, and we must persevere, even when the outcome is uncertain.
“For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” – Hebrews 10:36 (ESV)
Here, the writer of Hebrews encourages us to remain steadfast in our faith, doing the will of God even when it requires patience and endurance. There will be times when the fulfillment of our faith lies in the future, and we must trust God for the outcome. It is in these moments that our faith is refined and strengthened, leading to a deeper trust in God’s character and promises.

Faith Becomes Sight in Eternity

Ultimately, our faith will find its perfect fulfillment in eternity with God. In this life, we walk by faith, but in Heaven, we will see God face to face, and our faith will no longer be necessary because we will have perfect knowledge and understanding.

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” – 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV)

Here, the apostle Paul acknowledges that our current understanding is limited, but one day, we will see God in all His glory, and our faith will be replaced by the certainty of His presence.

Walking in Faith Today

In the meantime, we continue to walk by faith, trusting God’s plan for our lives. We can be confident that as we faithfully follow Him, He will fulfill His promises in His perfect timing.

So, let us persist in our faith, seeking God wholeheartedly and trusting that one day, our faith will become sight.
