Why does God want us to lean on him?

Lean

In the midst of life’s trials and uncertainties, it is reassuring to know that we can find strength and comfort in our faith and to lean on God. This is a rock-solid truth for anyone who believes in God. It is open to all, regardless of religious background or creed. The knowledge that there is a loving God who is intimately involved in the world and its affairs can be incredibly empowering. This belief is a source of solace, peace, and stability for so many people. It is our solid foundation.

A God of Comfort and Strength

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” Here, we see that God is not a distant deity but one who cares so deeply for us that He wants to comfort us in our pain. He is the source of all mercy and comfort, and He desires to give us the strength we need for any challenge we face. This is the foundation of our faith, and it is a reliable and constant source of hope. When we feel afraid or uncertain, we can turn to this truth and know that we are not alone. The very fact that God is there, and He cares, provides a sense of security. This belief in a loving, powerful, and personal God gives us the motivation to face life’s challenges head-on, knowing we have His support and guidance.

Trusting in His Wisdom

Trusting in God’s wisdom goes hand in hand with finding comfort in Him. Psalm 57:2 says, “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” God has a plan and a purpose for each of us, and He will fulfill it. When we trust in that, we can let go of our worries and fears and surrender to His will. Often, we want to cling to control, to try and solve all our problems by ourselves. But when we trust in God’s wisdom, we can release that burden. We realize that we don’t have to have all the answers. Instead, we can rely on His guidance and direction in our lives. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” When we do this, when we truly surrender and trust, we find a deep sense of peace and confidence that is so often missing in our lives. This peace comes from knowing that God is in control and that He will guide us through any storm.

Building a Relationship

Faith in God is not a one-sided affair. We can build a deep and meaningful relationship with Him. This relationship becomes our source of strength and hope in difficult times. Through prayer, meditation, and worship, we connect with God and develop a closeness that cannot be found anywhere else. Many believers find that taking part in religious services and community activities helps to strengthen this relationship. It is in these times of active seeking that we find God revealing Himself to us, and we develop a deeper trust in Him. Our faith becomes a powerful motivator to persevere and a source of direction in our lives. Romans 5:3-4 says, “More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” As we build our relationship with God, we find that we can, indeed, rejoice in our sufferings because we know that God is with us, and He will use these trials for our good.

Peace Through Surrender

The act of surrendering control to God is an incredibly freeing experience. When we let go of our worries and fears and place our trust in Him, we find peace. This peace is not dependent on our circumstances, but on the knowledge that we are in the hands of a loving God who has a plan for our lives. We don’t have to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. God wants us to cast our burdens on Him, as He says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Here, Jesus invites us to a place of rest. He wants us to come to Him with our struggles and find peace in surrendering to His will. This surrender opens us up to finding strength and comfort in unexpected ways. We discover that we don’t need to have all the answers but can trust in God’s wisdom instead.

Overcoming with Faith

Our faith is a powerful tool to help us overcome life’s challenges. When we place our trust in God, we can face trials with a sense of purpose and direction. We don’t have to understand all the reasons why things happen, but we can be sure that God is working all things for our good. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” This is a promise that we can hold on to in the midst of our struggles. God is with us, and He will guide us through. As we walk by faith, we can let go of our fears and worries, knowing that God is in control. Our faith becomes a shield, protecting us from the doubts and uncertainties that would hold us back. We are empowered to face each day because we know that God is with us every step of the way.

Finding Purpose

Living by faith allows us to discover our true purpose and direction in life. When we actively seek God, we begin to understand the values and priorities that He has placed within us. We find clarity and a sense of calling, knowing that we are walking in the path that God has intended for us. This sense of purpose gives us drive and motivation. We are no longer drifting through life but are anchored in the knowledge of our divine calling. Even in the midst of trials, we can have a clear vision and know that God is working through us and for us.

Experiencing God’s Love

Ultimately, this is what faith is all about: experiencing the deep and abiding love of God. When we recognize that we are loved by the Almighty God, we find the strength to face anything. His love is not dependent on our performance or achievements but is a free gift that He offers to all. As we seek Him, we find that His love provides a sense of security and peace that cannot be found anywhere else. We are comforted, strengthened, and provided for. We can let go of the need to control everything and simply rest in His love, knowing that He will never fail us. This is the heart of finding strength and comfort in God: knowing that we are loved by the Creator of the universe and that He is always with us, ready to guide and support us through every season of life. We can truly say, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” (Psalm 23:1-3) So, let us encourage one another to keep our eyes fixed on Him, knowing that our faith in God is a solid foundation, a source of strength and comfort, and a wellspring of hope and peace.
